CAS Ideas

This is not intended to be all-inclusive. It is a list of ideas to get your creative ideas flowing.

Creativity

Exploring a creative outlet to express yourself.

There must be an end product

  1. Start a YouTube channel for your cooking or baking or some other “how to.”
  2. Take up knitting or sewing and make clothes/accessories to donate to a charity.
  3. Take up photography and create a forum to display it, such as an Instagram account.
  4. Produce a documentary.
  5. Write for The VanGoat.
  6. Start a book club at school.
  7. Write a novel or some short stories.
  8. Make a film of your novel/short story.
  9. Make a stop motion animation film (see the film Chicken Run for inspiration!)
  10. Write poetry and create a forum to display them, such as a blog.
  11. Learn calligraphy, make handmade cards that feature your calligraphy and give them away to brighten someone´s day.
  12. Join a choir.
  13. Organize an open mic event.
  14. Join/start a band.
  15. Join/start an orchestra.
  16. Learn a musical instrument.
  17. If you already play an instrument, try teaching it.
  18. Design a new video game.
  19. Take up sketching/painting and create a forum to display them, such as an Instagram account.

Activity

Habitual physical activity that leads to a healthy lifestyle

Must have tangible personal goals.

  1. Take up running – why not set yourself a goal of running a 5km or 10km race, or even a marathon?
  2. Start a running club.
  3. Learn (or teach) rock climbing, whether that be indoors or outdoors!
  4. Take a Zumba class.
  5. If you enjoy dancing, learn a new style, such as ballroom, foxtrot, waltz, cha-cha, breakdancing, etc. and show what you learned in the talent show.
  6. Take a yoga class.
  7. Take lessons in paragliding, skiing, snowboarding, kayaking.
  8. Plan a group whitewater rafting trip.
  9. Take up mountain biking.
  10. Commit to cycling to school for a certain number of days per week.
  11. If you like swimming, cycling and running, train for a triathlon.
  12. If you’re already a swimmer, learn to dive.
  13. Take part in a team sport.
  14. Learn archery.
  15. Learn or teach orienteering.
  16. Learn / Practice Horse riding on a regular basis.
  17. Learn boxing or take a boxing exercise class.
  18. Organize a sand volleyball team.
  19. Learn or teach judo, taekwondo or karate.
  20. Learn to play tennis, or table tennis.
  21. Learn to ice skate.
  22. Learn to play golf.
  23. Learn or teach skateboarding.

Service

Must meet an authentic, identified community need.

You need to be able to show:

–What the need is.

–What you did to address it.

–How you know the need has been met based on your action.

 

  1. Volunteer at a local charity shop
  2. Spend an hour a week volunteering at a nursing home.
  3. Volunteer at your local hospital
  4. Start a Junior CPR Program
  5. Learn First Aid
  6. Organize in a charity fun run.
  7. Or even bigger, hold a fair at your school for charity – have stalls such as face painting, a second-hand book stall, hook-a-duck etc…
  8. Volunteer at an after-school club, either at your school or a local public school
  9. If you have a local green area, set up a butterfly conservation space.
  10. If you live near the coast, arrange a beach clean-up team.
  11. Learn how to perform CPR.
  12. Volunteer for a wildlife conservation program.
  13. Volunteer at an animal shelter
  14. Do you have an elderly neighbor or relative? Offer to work in their garden, or maybe walk their dog a few times a week.
  15. Help out at a soup kitchen.
  16. Take part in Amnesty International campaigns.
  17. Volunteer at your local library
  18. Or if there’s a local museum in your area, volunteer there.
  19. Organize a CAS fair at your school. This is an event where your IB year group presents your CAS projects and activities to the years below. This should give them some help and inspiration!
  20. If you’re bilingual, volunteer to help someone or an organization with translations.
  21. If you’re taking up knitting as a CREATIVE project, try knitting hats or clothing for premature babies
  22. Campaign for better recycling at your school.
