This is going to be an amazing project and you have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor and make this (one of) the best of projects for the school, that will impact our experience here as well as that of the local community.

The OIS Eco School team is sowing the seeds of a new Service as Action (SA) and CAS initiative, OIS Habitat. This blossoming project invites you to reconnect with the natural world and become stewards of the living landscape that surrounds our campus.

OIS Habitat will branch into tribes, each rooted in a specific ecosystem:

  • River Tribe  – flowing with life along the river or its banks
  • Pond Tribe – nurturing the still waters and their hidden wonders
  • Bush Tribe – restoring the wild heart of the cross-country field

And more tribes may sprout as the project takes root and grows!

What is OIS Habitat really about?

Ms. Domingas and Ms. Coimbra envision a campus where students cultivate care for nature in all its forms and seasons. In a world where children are increasingly uprooted from the outdoors, this initiative offers a chance to tend, protect, and revive our shared habitat.

You will dig into real-world action:

  • clearing litter
  • testing soil and water
  • identifying species
  • removing invasive species
  • learning how a thriving habitat depends on the harmony of all its inhabitants

With support from the Câmara de Oeiras, the groundwork is laid. Now we need you to bring your passion, ready to blossom into changemakers. Whether your strengths lie in science, technology, storytelling, organizing, creativity, or simply loving the outdoors, your talents can help this project flourish.
